Imphal, June 03 2019:
In a press conference held at Socialist Students Union of Manipur's Office, Keishampat on the rising prices of rice, Bhushan Longjan, Secretary General SSUM said that the price of rice produced in Manipur has increased from forty six rupees to fifty rupees and the price of rice meant for public distribution (superfine) has increased from rupees thirty-two to thirty-five.
It is nothing but a crisis that the people of Manipur are facing.
The government of Manipur is staying mum in this crisis.
SSUM will not tolerate this silence from the part of the Government, he added.
The government should tell the people how such a situation has come about and what necessary action it is going to take to deal with this crisis.
It should answer how the price has risen.
It should reveal the person who decides the price of rice.
If the price of rice has increased to such a level now then what will happen after couple of months.
How will the peasants and workers survive if the cost of rice is skyrocketing like this? SSUM will not stay quiet and is prepared to oppose the price rise along with the people of Manipur.
The government will be held accountable if it does not take action immediately.
