UNC boycotts State Govt

The United Naga Council (UNC) has decided to boycott the Government of Manipur in all Naga areas with immediate effect.
A resolution to this effect was adopted at a presidential council meeting of the UNC held today at Ukhrul prior to the funeral service of Mayopam Ramror and Ramkashing Vashi.
The meeting was attended by Naga tribe councils, Naga frontal and regional organisations.
The gathering condemned in the strongest term the killings and violence perpetrated on the Nagas during the peace rally held at Ukhrul on August 30 by State security forces.
The meeting declared late Mayopam Ramror and Ramkashing Vashi of Tienem village as marytrs of the Naga cause and it further resolved to honour the two victims as martyrs for all time to come.
It also reiterated the 'political boycott' of the Government of Manipur in Naga areas.
The fourth resolution of the meeting says that an indefinite ban on all construction works on national projects in Naga areas and ban on all vehicular traffic on National and State highways in Naga areas would be enforced with effect from 6 am of September 4 till such time the Government of India makes a political intervention.
According to a press release issued by UNC general secretary Gaidon Kamei, the resolutions adopted at the meeting today would be submitted to the Prime Minister of India for his immediate political intervention.
