Imphal, November 30 2024:
Laishram Kamalbabu's wife led a protest demonstration and confronted the army at Leimakhong today demanding the security forces to produce her husband.
Laishram Belarani, wife of Laishram Kamalbabu who is missing since November 25, arrived at Imphal from Silchar today and led the protest demonstration at Leimakhong.
Laishram Kamalbabu went missing from inside the military garrison at Leimakhong on November 25.He hails from Silchar and was staying at his younger brother's residence at Loitang Khunou when he went missing.
This morning, members of the JAC, formed in connection with the missing case, volunteers of civil society organisations and womenfolk blocked the road at Leimakhong Chingmang demanding the Army to trace and produce Laishram Kamalbabu alive.
Kamalbabu's wife joined the protest at around 10 am, and led the protesters towards the Army camp.
When the protesters tried to storm past the barricades, a confrontation broke out with the army personnel.
The protesters chanted slogans denouncing the army for their "incompetence in tracing a person who went missing inside the high security military camp".
In the afternoon at around 3.30, Kamalbabu's wife, several members of civil society organisations (CSOs) and the Joint Action Committee (JAC) were allowed to meet the GOC of the 57 Mountain Division.
The meeting with the GOC concluded at around 5.30 pm.
After the meeting, JAC member L Anita said the army told them that the search for Kamalbabu is on.
"The army always says they are searching.
They haven't said anything else beside this.
This irresponsible and incompetent response of the Army has further angered the people," Anita said.
A person disappearing inside an army camp is a serious issue.
The protest will continue until Kamalbabu is found.
If Kamalbabu is not produced, the army will face people's wrath," she said.
Another JAC member, Maibam Pumimasi said the future course of agitation will be decided by a joint meeting of the JAC and CSOs at Khwairamband Bazar.
