Ibobi visits injured victims, promises Rs 5 lakh ex-gratia

Chief Minister O Ibobi today personally visited four injured victims at JNIMS and RIMS, and extended monetary aid to their families.
The Chief Minister also promised that the State Government would bear all medical expenses of all the injured victims apart from giving ex-gratia of Rs five lakh each to families of the deceased victims.
The four were among the score of people who sustained injuries during violent confrontation between police and civilians which broke out in the course of a mass rally at Ukhrul yesterday.
They were brought to Imphal late evening yesterday.
The Chief Minister together with Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, Deputy Speaker Preshow Shimray and Health Minister Phungzathang visited the injured victims and enquired about their conditions.

Ibobi gave immediate monetary relief of Rs 50,000 each to the families of the injured victims.
At JNIMS, Ibobi instructed the attending doctors to inform the Government immediately if the conditions of the injured victims become critical or if it is becoming difficult to treat them at the hospital.
Muinao Ngachonmi (30) s/o M David of Somdal, Reishanjoy Haoram (30) s/o Gedeon Tanrui, Ukhrul and Ramchanngam Horam (21) s/o Helpson Horam of Kharasom are undergoing treatment at JNIMS while SK Raingam (27) s/o SK Timorthy of Kachai village has been admitted at RIMS.
A late report informed that Muinao Ngachonmi has been referred to Raj Medicity this afternoon on account of absence of necessary medical equipment at JNIMS.
SK Raingam was also first brought to JNIMS last night but he was referred to RIMS this morning.
He sustained multiple bullet injuries.
As preparations were being made to take him inside operation theatre at about 11.30 am, the ministerial team led by Ibobi arrived there and the team had a brief interaction with Raingam's family.
Raingam was taken inside the operation theatre at 12 noon.
On being enquired if the Government was thinking about any enquiry, Ibobi stated that one enquiry has been already conducted by media/press.
"For us who did not witness the whole sequence of events, only an enquiry will tell us how did the confrontation broke out," Ibobi stated.
He said that the Government was working to recover missing weapons issued to State security personnel.
Terming yesterday's incident as very unfortunate, Ibobi informed that the Government has been closely monitoring the situation so that it does not grow worse.
To another query, the Chief Minister stated that efforts were on to verify if there was any armed person among the participants of the Ukhrul rally.
Security forces were deployed at Ukhrul out of sheer necessity following series of killings including politicians and civil employees for protection of life and property of citizens was the foremost priority of any elected Government.
The Government has no intention to deploy security forces where they are not necessary.
Security forces deployed in any part of the State were not meant to harass public or students or church goers.
Even today CrPC 144 is imposed in Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal and Bishnupur districts and the same measure has been put in place not to harass civilians but for their protection., Ibobi clarified.
