RK Sanatomba Memorial Journalist Award given

Imphal, June 30 2011: Amukhomba Ngangbam of the Huiyen Lanpao has been conferred the RK Sanatomba memorial Journalist Award.

The award was presented to Amukhomba at a function held at GM Hall under the aegis of the RK Sanatomba Memorial Trust.

The award carries a cash prize of Rs 20,000 and a citation.

Social activist Thounaojam Iboyaima, MU Philosophy Prof Soyam Lokendrajit, Anthropology Prof Wangkhem Nabakumar and president of the All Manipur Bar Association A Indrakumar attended the function as presidium members.

Prof Soyam Lokendrajit presented a lecture on the topic 'Freedom, Democracy and Development' .

Keeping in view the recent mass uprisings in several Arab countries, Prof Lokendrajit questioned whether the State media has been discharging their duty to the full regarding delivery of freedom and democracy to the people.

Saying that the destiny of Manipur would be determined by its demography, Prof Lokendrajit highlighted the need to deliberate on the matter by academicians, civil society, scholars and the media.

Prof Nabakumar stated that media should take proactive roles in liberating the society.
