Imphal, January 31 2016: Lt Gen Konsam Himalay Singh was conferred the Uttam Yudh Sena Medal (UYSM) for distinguished service on the occasion of the country's Republic Day celebration.

Lt Gen Konsam Himalay Singh, a native of Thoubal (Manipur) presently posted as Commandant Infantry School, Mhow(MP) has been conferred Uttam Yudh Sena Medal for his distinguished service as General Officer Commanding of 16 Corps in J&K.Uttam Yudh Seva Medal (UYSM) is one of India's military decorations for wartime distinguished service.

It is awarded for high degree of distinguished services in an operational context.

"Operational context" includes times of war, conflict, or hostilities.

Lt Gen Himalay

The General has held varied command, staff and instructional appointments.

He has vast operational experience in counter insurgency operations in J&K where he served five tenures in the last 35 years and four tenures in North East CI Operations, LC, LAC and HAA environment.

He commanded a battalion in Siachen Glacier during 1998-2000.Earlier he was conferred with 'Yudh Seva Medal' (YSM) in the year 2000 for command of the battalion during 'OP VIJAY'.

The General Officer later commanded an Infantry Brigade in Delhi.

He was General Officer Commanding 25 Infantry Division in J&K and was awarded 'Ati Vishisht Sewa Medal' in 2013.He has also been awarded the Chief of Army Staff Commendation Card thrice and also GOC-in-C Eastern Command Commendation Card.

He has also been Battalion commander and Senior Instructor at National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla.

Gen Himalay is an alumni of Sainik School, Goalpara and the National Defence Academy.

He was commissioned into the Second Battalion Rajput Regiment in June 1978 and a graduate of Defence Services Staff College, College of Defence Management and the prestigious National Defence College.

Lt Gen Himalay is the first Army officer from North East to be promoted to the rank of Lt Gen since independence.

In the recent past Lt Gen PK Bharali, DG, Air Defence was promoted to Lt Gen.

Lt Gen Konsam Himalay Singh is married to Dr Mangala Devi, an accomplished Doctor and they have two daughters.
