Sentinel College, Ukhrul celebrates silver jubilee

The Sentinel College on Saturday organised a grand event to commemorate the successful completion of 25 years of its service in the field of education.
The silver jubilee of the college was formally declared by
Ukhrul DFO Shanngam Shali by releasing the ceremonial balloon and hoisting the jubilee flag.
Director in-charge of College Development Council, Manipur University Dr Jibonkumar unveiled the jubilee plaque at the college campus, Phungreitang in the presence of Sentinel College principal KSA Lurstep; CRED Managing Board chairman AS James Hosannah; and other founding members, staff and students and alumni of the college.
Later, the anniversary celebration function was held at town hall, Phungreitang in Ukhrul town.

Speaking at the event, Shanngam congratulated the pioneers and founding members of the college on their attainment of the silver jubilee anniversary.
He said that there has been a long-running debate on the topic of quality and quantity education in the society and that the two should be understood in proper perspective.
"While quantity education places its focus on degrees and job placement, this should not be the case with quality education.
The ultimate goal of education is betterment of the society.
It should instil in students the values that make them good human beings who can contribute their mites to the society," he explained.
He said that quality education should provide students all good qualities, and virtues that contribute in making a good society, and added that for quality education to become a reality, such qualities should not be compromised at any cost.
On a larger aspect, he compared education to a ship.
"Failed education may bring down a whole society in the same manner that a ship sinks with everyone on board," Shanngam added.
In his speech, Dr Jibonkumar stated that he is currently looking after a total of 118 colleges in Manipur including technical, non-technical, professional, non-professional colleges.
He said that Sentinel College was granted temporary affiliation from Manipur University back in 2013 but it has not attained permanent affiliation till date.
He then advised the college to apply for the permanent affiliation, stating that "once approved, the college will be recognised by University Grants Commission and after this; the college will be eligible for various funding programme from the government" .
Stressing on the role of teachers, he said that teachers are the best textbook for students.
Dr Jibonkumar urged teachers to make themselves the best textbook by putting in their best efforts, and labour to give the best of knowledge to the students.
He went on to state that the education scenario across the country is fast changing and that the National Education Policy (NEP) is all set for implementation from the current year onwards.
He said that NEP when implemented will be a big game changer in the education sector.
Principal Lurstep highlighted about the vision and mission of the college which was established in 1996 .
"It's a moment of joy, pride and humility to look back at how far we have come," he said, while giving honour to the pioneers of the college.
Congratulating the management, administration, staff and students of the college, Hosannah said that the college is growing and bearing fruits from its own soil, producing many able leaders, theologians, legal experts, entrepreneurs and professionals in different walks of life.
As part of the celebration, a jubilee magazine of the college titled 'Footprints' was released by Father Parvish, principal, St Joseph College .
