Ukhrul, July 30 2014:
Leaders of Tangkhul organisations, social activists and Church workers on Wednesday converged at Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) ground and conducted a prayer programme for "Just Peace" in Ukhrul district even as the prohibitory order remains in force in the town.
A heavy security blanket was put in place in and around the TNL ground on Wednesday as preventive measure with the "Prayer for Just Peace" scheduled to take off at 12.30 PM.
Security forces armed in riot gears cordoned off the meeting site and halted movement of commuters and vehicles in the town till it got over at 2.30 PM.

In spite of the heavy security arrangement to enforce the 144 CrPC Act, a few members from local organisations and civil societies could make their way through to the ground.
However, the public turn-out was very poor as roughly 100 people attended the programme that got delayed by about an hour.
Police pickets posted at various pockets of the town were to some extent able to curtail the public movement that probably results to low attendance in the prayer meet.
TNL president Artax Shimray and his associates were stopped by security forces in front of TNL office for nearly half an hour from proceeding towards the prayer.
His party could, however, manage to attend the prayer with a slew of senior security officials on the spot.
There was no incidence of violence or whatsoever reported from any areas of the town today, with the public and security forces exhibiting a laudable level of tolerance this time.
In today's public programmewhich Tangkhul organisations invoked faith for restoring peace in Ukhrul, the members joined their hearts in prayers for Indo-Naga peace process, leaders of the Government of India, collective leadership of the NSCN (IM) among others.
Artax said the Tangkhul community would continue on with different forms of agitation to put pressure on government to lift the prohibitory order and militarization in Ukhrul headquarters.
The local bodies have been launching a series of democratic movements since July 13 with the State government deploying heavy security forces and ordering the district administration to invoke relevant CrPC Acta situation which has developed a day after the killing of UADC member.
