Imphal, August 29 2019:
The 88th Martyrdom of Haipou Jadonang, was observed at Ramgailong (Laimanai) village, under the aegis of Zeliangrong Civil Organizations (ZCOs), namely Zeliangrong Baudi, Zeliangrong Youth Front and Zeliangrong Students' Union.
A three minute silence was observed to pay respect to Haipou Jadonang in view of his supreme sacrifice towards the cause of the people's liberation movement from the bondage of British colonial rule and the observance was attended by leaders of various civil organizations, elders, seniors leaders, members of the village authorities, women, youths and students from different Zeliangrong areas.
During the event, Akham Gonmei, former president of AZSU, spoke about the vision and movement of Haipou Jadonang while Ashinpou Gangmei, advisor, Zeliangrong Baudi and former Chairman, ZSUM, spoke about the history of Haipou Jadonang.
He said that Jadonang was a social-religious reformer and political leader whose legacy led to strong political movement particularly in the North East, and India as a whole.
Jadonang, who was wrongly implicated in a murder charge, so as to suppress his resistance movement against the British colonial rule, never surrendered even in his last moments while standing on the gallows.
Athuan Abonmai, president, Zeliangrong Baudi (Assam Manipur & Nagaland) dwelt at length on the present situation of Zeliangrong people and urged the Central Government to recognize the supreme sacrifice of Jadonang and the Zeliangrong people's contribution towards the liberation movement launched against the mighty British.
The strong resistant movement of Haipou Jadonang with the slogan "Makam gwantu puni" which means "Our people shall reign", against the mighty British rule was totally neglected and ignored by the Central Government and as such, India's attainment of independence has caused more harm than good for the Zeliangrong people, he alleged.
He reminded the gathering about the supreme sacrifice of Haipou Jadonang and urged all to follow in his footsteps for the cause of Zeliangrong people.
The Zeliangrong Civil Organizations expressed gratitude to all the people irrespective of communities, caste and creed for their honour and respect shown to Haipou Jadonang.
It also expressed profound gratitude to Pei (village customary court), Khullak and his esteemed colleagues, elders and villagers of Ramgailong (Laimanai) village, Chairmen and Members of Village Authorities of different villages and all the people who attended the observance programme for their cooperation and support.

A special folk song on the life of Haipou Jadonang was also presented by Meisonglung Pamei, chairman Tingkao Ragwang Chapriak (Assam, Manipur, Nagaland) during the event.
Thaban Rongmei, president of RCD spoke as a resource person on the brief history of Haipou Jadonang and urged the gathering to be agood followers rather than being mere spectators.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Marangdunlu Kamei, treasurer of Rongmei Youth Club Dimapur.
