Retired Colonel NN Singh has conveyed that about Rs 72 crore of revenue is being flowed in the State yearly as salaries of the personnel serving in the different military services of India, in addition to the pensions of the retired military officers amounting to Rs 36 crores (approx).
He was speaking as a special invitee at the 9th Meritorious Award 2018 distribution ceremony cum felicitation of the Heingang natives who hold key posts in various Government Departments, jointly organised by Heingang United Clubs Organisation (HUCO) and 9th Meritorious Award Distribution Committee at Heingang Panthoibi Lampak Community Hall, Imphal East today.
NN Singh, who had also served in the Sainik School, Goalpara, Assam went on to stress the importance of career counselling in guiding students and youth.
Certain factors like the potential/talents, personal interest and family background of the students should be taken into account while giving career counselling to students, he said.
He underscored the value of enhancing communication skills in nurturing students and pointed out that many Manipuri students often encounter problems in facing competitive examinations due to poor communication skills.
Joining NDA is one of the best career option that students from any family background may consider, he said and highlighted that many high ranking officers, including two Lieutenant Generals and a lady naval officer Lieutenant Sh Vijaya Devi from the State took part in the arduous voyage of eight months in circumnavigating the globe on a sail boat with stopovers at five ports.
Speaking as the chief guest, N Hiyainu Devi, the better half of Chief Minister N Biren noted that education is essential in every affairs of life.
She asked the organizations and local clubs in Heingang AC to give special attention and take up efforts to impart qualitative education to the children and youths of the constituency.
Students are the pillars of the society and the Nation as a whole, she said.
A total of 72 meritorious students and sports personalities were conferred the 9th Meritorious Awards, 2018 during the function.
The function was also attended by PHED SE H Bigadhon Singh, Imphal East Adhyaksha P Bimola Devi, Heingang GP Pradhan K Jayenta Singh, MI Chief Engineer H Brojendro Singh and Tourism Director W Ibohal Singh among others as presidium members.
