2 AR jawans, 4 civilians injured in Lilong blast

Imphal, January 29 2015 : At least two Assam Rifles jawans including a Naik Subedar and four other civilians traveling in a Tata Magic van sustained injuries when a hand grenade lobbed by unidentified armed persons who came in a car exploded near Lilong Police Station at around 7.35 pm on Thursday.

Personnel of 40th Assam Rifles were conducting frisking operation along the road when the grenade attack was carried out.

The two injured AR jawans have been identified as Naik Subedar Kunjamon (50) and Rifleman Deepak (28), both hailing from Kerala.

Kunjamon sustained bomb splinter injuries on his left thigh while Deepak on his left arm.

The four injured civilians have also been identified as Atom Lishemba (25) s/o Jiten of Thoubal Okram, Md Wahiruddin (43) s/o Md Abdul Latif of Lilong Mairen Khul, Md Wasim (20) s/o Md Tomba of Thoubal Moijing Kiyam Litanpokpio and Boby Laishram (30) s/o late L Tomba of Yairipok.

Leishemba is the driver of the passenger service Tata Magic van (registration no.MN06L-5478) plying between Imphal and Thoubal.

He sustained injuries on his face and chest.

The other three, all passengers travelling in the Tata Magic van, sustained injuries on their hands and legs.

The injured civilians were discharged after administering first aid at Lilong Primary Health Centre while the two injured AR jawans have been admitted to RIMS Hospital at Lamphelpat.
