Imphal, August 28 2022:
Renowned social activist, RK Sanayaima has appealed to the people for the institutionalisation of the Manipuri narrative art form.
He made this statement while speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the Narrative Art Festival held at Chanam Santrok Lainingthou Santhong Apanba Shanglen organised by Amaiba Piba/Peeba Apul Lup (APAL), Kangleipak.
Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, RK Sanayaima said that age-old traditions left by the forefathers such as the tradition or narrative art form of "Wari Leeba" depicts the way of life and culture of the past.
Stating that these ancestral traditions show the beauty of Manipuri culture, he added that it is imperative to introduce these art forms to the younger generation.
The social activist further said that if this narrative art form is reinvigorated and made popular in the present time, it could possibly impart ways to conduct themselves in a dignified manner to the youth as well as how to behave in a society.
This could potentially contribute immensely in the creation of a better Manipuri society, he maintained.
He also commented on the declining interest in the narration of the State's history for the last 3/4 generations and highlighted the pressing need to establish an institution to preserve this narrative art form and keep it alive for posterity.
Waikhom Amuchou, leader, Malemgi Lup Mithunglen also addressed the gathering as the guest of honour and stated that the traditional narrative art form teaches the people about the ways of married life, manners and rules and regulation.
The youth of today could greatly benefit from such great teachings and lessons, he opined.
He also expressed the belief that introducing children to the unbreakable bond between communities and their stories could help in the progress of society.
The inaugural event was also attended by Moirangthem Bheigya Meitei, advisor, APAN and Robin Blackie, advisor to Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba.
Many narrative art form artistes partook in the day's event.
