Literary books in Meitei Mayek released

Meitei Meiyek editions of (L) Hijam Guno's literary masterpieces "Tonu Laijinglembi Seitharol" and "Khudol" were released today.
The book release function held at Manipur Press Club was graced by Professor Polem Nabachandra Singh, former Head, Department ofManipuri, Manipur University; Professor Nahakpam Aruna, former Head, Department of Manipuri, MU and film actor Khwairakpam Biswamitra as president and guests of honour respectively.
Speaking at the function, Nabachandra pointed out the uniqueness in the writings ofHijam Guno, saying most of his works reflected the writer's high level social consciousness besides preferring first person in the pitching style.

The writings of Hijam Guno inculcate a vast knowledge and insights about the happenings in the society, including the Second World War II and relationship between hills and valley people.
Hence, most ofhis works have great impact on the minds of readers, he maintained.
Aruna observed that the presence of Hijam Guno can be felt in the present society particularly in the field ofliterature although he expired.
She remarked that the novels, stories and other literary works of Hijam Guno emanated from his heart and soul besides depicting his great artistic skills.
Biswamitra opined that the publication ofManipuri novels and literatures in Meitei Meiyek edition will provide opportunity to the younger generations who no longer have knowledge of Bengali script.
Asserting that this would even enhance the promotion of Manipuri literature, he asked the State Government and its agencies concerned to strengthen the translation work of Manipuri literature written in Bengali script, epics and masterpieces of renowned Manipuri poets and writers into Meitei Meiyek.
