Imphal, October 27 2015:
All Manipur Recognised Private Schools Welfare Association, Imphal has raised strong objection to the notification necessitating registration of class VIII and IX students at Zonal Offices under the Directorate of Education (S) and Board of Secondary Education Manipur today.
Zonal Education Officers, on October 15, 2015, issued an order requiring class VIII and IX students to register under Zonal Offices under the Directorate of Education (S) and Board of Secondary Education Manipur, the association secretary L Joy Khuman said during a press meet.
Decrying the collection of registration fee from students (Rs 50 per student), Joy said the procedure is a violation of the Right to Education Act which promises free education to students till standard VIII .
The association submitted formal complaints to the Directorate of Education (S) and Board of Secondary Education Manipur on October 17, two days after ZEOs issued the registration order.
The Department of Education, Joy alleged, had dismissed the opposition raised by the association during a meeting.
The All Manipur Recognised Private Schools Welfare Association further said it will not hesitate to take the matter up to the HRD Ministry or seek legal aid from High Court if the Department concerned fail to scrap the registration order at the earliest.
The association appealed to CSOs and other lups to refrain form imposing bandhs or general strike during its pre-board examination, 2015-16, to be held from November 20 to 30 .
