Sale of land to non-locals prohibited

A joint resolution passed by nine organisations has imposed prohibition on the sale of land to non-indigenous people in the areas covered by the aforementioned organisations from Moirang to Churachandpur.
According to a joint statement issued by the 9 organisations/clubs, a press conference in this connection was held today at the head office of Kangleipak Kanba Lup (KKL) in Jupiter Yambem Centre, Paona Keithel, Imphal at around 10 am .
Addressing the media persons, Keisham Naocha, president, Lamthabung Area Voluntary Association (LAVA) stated that the press meet was convened with the objective of passing certain resolutions to safeguard the interest of indigenous people of Manipur.
Keisham Naocha also drew the attention of the State machinery to draft an act to protect the indigenous Meetei community from threats to their land and culture.
Further, he stated that in order to protect the Meetei community from becoming a minority in the State, the womenfolk must refrain from marrying outside the community to non-indigenous/local people.
He also mentioned the MLR & LR Act and called upon the State Government to amend the Act at the earliest to ensure that indigenous people of Manipur can live freely anywhere within the State.
Regarding the prohibition on sale of land, he added that any individual found acting in violation of the 9 organisations' resolution must accept the judgement doled out by them.
It may be noted that the nine organisations are KKL; Youth Development Organisation, Phougakchao Ikhai Awang Leikai; Torbung United Club; LAVA, Torbung; The Youth & Social Development Organisation, Kwakeithel; Ibudhou Thougailon Youth Development Organisation, Phougakchao Ikhai; Youth Development Club, Phougakchao Ikhai Maning Leikai; Social Welfare Club, Torbung and Social Youth Development Organisation, Phougakchao Ikhai.
