70th Republic Day celebrated across State

Amidst boycott called by several student organisations and CSOs denouncing the Citizenship Amendment Bill, districts across the State observed the 70th Republic Day celebration on January 26.Here are the highlights of the RD celebrations across the State-
Bishnupur: Bishnupur District celebrated the RD at Mini-Stadium Ground with Pawan Yadav, Deputy Commissioner as the chief guest.
Altogether, 21 contingents consisting of civil police, VDF, Home Guard, school students, NCC, Anganwadi Workers, ASHA and Band party contingents participated at the march past parade.
A special issue of biannual 'Bishnupur Tidings' published by District Information Office was also distributed on the day.
Churachandpur: The RD was celebrated at Public Ground, Hiangtam Lamka, Churachandpur today with Deputy Commissioner of Churachandpur Shyam Lal Poonia hoisting the National Tri-Colour and taking salute of the marching contingents comprising of BSF, ex-servicemen, Civil Police, VDF, IRB Band Party, cadets of different NCC units and school children.
Presentation of colourful cultural items by different troupes, soulful rendering of 'Vande Mataram' by artistes, presentation of Special Recognition Awards to outstanding social workers, Govt employees, red blankets to village chiefs, march past contingents and a friendly football match between DC XI Team and SP XI Team marked the occasion.
Chairman of ADC, Churachandpur T Paukhanlian, Vice-Chairman of ADC, Paolal Haokip, other members of ADC, Sr SP (Churachandpur) Kabib K, DLOs, army officials, BSF officials, chiefs and social activists attended the event.
Special issue of 'Churachandpur Reporter' published by the District Information Office was released to commemorate the occasion.
Jiribam: The RD celebration was held at Jiribam Higher Secondary School Ground, Babupara with Deputy Commissioner of Jiribam, Robert Singh Kshetrimayum unfurling and saluting the National Tri-colour.
Jiribam Higher Secondary School Boys Contingent, Jiri College Girls Contingent and Jiribam Higher Secondary School Girls Contingent were awarded first, second and third prizes for in the RD parade.
Appreciation and recognition certificates were awarded to several individuals including AIR PTC Ng Biswajit Singh, Poknapoham Jiribam correspondent A KLukhoi Singh and Jiri'News Network Editor in Chief Md Mahin Laskar.
Kamjong: Deputy Commissioner of Kamjong Zuringla Kengoo also hoisted the National flag at Kamjong Public Ground to mark the RD celebration, said sources.
Civil society organisations refrained from participating the march past.
Several cultural troupes presented their shows at the event.
Kangpokpi: District Administration, Kangpokpi celebrated RD at the DC Office Complex, Kangpokpi.
The celebration began with the unfurling of the National flag by Additional Deputy Commissioner Joel G Haokip, MCS, who was present as chief guest of the function.
Sony Siem Go Sang, MPS, SDPO of Kangpokpi Police commanded the RD parade which included contingents of District Police, Kangpokpi, ICDS, ASHA workers, NCC and several Government and private schools in the district including JNV, MBC School, Elite Hr Sec School, Diamond English School, PM Academy, etc.
A Republic Day special issue of "Kangpokpi Today", published by District Information Office, Kangpokpi was released by the chief guest.
Kakching: District Administration Kakching also celebrated the Republic Day with Deputy Commissioner Neilenthang Telien unfurling the National Flag.
28 contingents took part in the RD parade.
Pherzawl: Pherzawl joined the rest of the Nation in celebrating the 70th Republic Day yesterday with the main celebration being held at Public Ground, Pherzawl district Headquarters.
The celebration was also held at all the sub-divisional headquarters of the district � Parbung, Patpuihmun and Thanlon.
Deputy Commissioner of Pherzawl Mannuamching attended the celebration as the chief guest and unfurled the National Tri-colour and took salute from four marching contingents comprising of civil police and students.
Performance of colourful cultural items by villagers, distribution of red blankets to 10 village chiefs/VA chairmen and distinguished personalities, presentation of sports materials to 15 clubs/schools and certificates of appreciation to 30 Govt employees of the district and an NGO (New Life) marked the celebration programme at Pherzawl.
Senapati: The District Administration, Senapati celebrated the Republic Day at Mini Stadium, Senapati with Somorjit Salam, IAS, DC, Senapati as the chief guest.
Different schools and colleges of the district, Anganwadi workers and 2 band parties from the 38 Assam Rifles, Lairouching and All Manipur Band party Association participated in the parade.
Commendation certificates were awarded to different officers/officials, Manipur Police, IRB and CRPF personnel and red blankets were distributed to village chairmen/headmen/chiefs/village elders for their outstanding co-operation to the District Administration.
Don Bosco Hr Sec School, Bethany Hr Sec School and the Hills Academy of Science bagged the first, second and third prizes respectively for the parade.
Mt Zion Hr Sec School and the Mt Everest Hr Sec School bagged the first and second position respectively in the NCC category.
Tengnoupal: RD was also celebrated at the border town with Additional Deputy Commissioner Moreh, M Rajkumar as chief guest.
Moreh Additional SP Kh Robinsun, Commandant 43 AR, Sumit Shood, SDPO Sandip Gopal Das, DSP Thomas Thokchom and other officials attended the celebration.
Contingents of students of various schools, Manipur Police, 8th MR took part in the RD parade.
Meanwhile, RD celebration was also held at Tengnoupal Government High School.
Tengnoupal SP Dr S Ibomcha, SDO Manoranjan, 12 AR Lt Col RS Yadav and other officials attended the event.
Thoubal: The main function of the Republic Day celebration was held at the Mini Secretariate Complex, Thoubal with much pomp, gaiety and amidst large turnout of people.
Deputy Commissioner Thoubal, Haobam Rosita unfurled the National Flag and took salute of 18 parade contingent which included the State Police, Home Guards, NCC, students from various schools and cultural troupes.
E Lalringum Pulamte, MPS, SDPO Yairipok was the parade commander.
Meritorious awards were distributed to the 193 officers and staffs of various departments.
Elected members of Municipal Council, Zilla Parishad and Gram Panchayats, high ranking civil and police officials of the district, school students and public participated in the celebration.
Ukhrul: Despite the boycott and public curfew enforced by Tangkhul Students Organization (TKS) and JAC on MGNREGS committee in Ukhrul town, the 70th Republic Day was celebrated amidst tight security at Bakshi Ground, Dungrei Hungpung, Ukhrul.
Deputy Commissioner, Ukhrul Dr Harmit Singh Pahuja unfurled National flag and took salute of the marching contingents comprised of ex-servicemen, 6th Manipur Rifles, Ukhrul Police, VDF, 27 AR Band Party.
Volunteers of JAC on MGNREGS committee burnt tyres from early morning to restrict vehicular movement in the town while the town folks refrained from attending the celebration.
No schools and civil society organizations participated at the march past due to the boycott called by Tangkhul Katamnao Long (TKS) in protest against the Citizenship Amendment Bill.
During the RD celebration 23 Government employees of Ukhrul district were given appreciation certificate.
Apart from the Government employees only few persons turn up for the RD function at Ukhrul.
Ukhrul ADC members, SP Worngam Ningshen, Commdt , 6th MR Ruichumthing Ragui, Addl DC Leiyaphy Rita, SDO, Ukhrul Charchit Gaur, DFO, SDCs attended the event.
