Sit in protest, jointly organised by Lamdeng Apunba Meira Paibi and Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol (CADA) Lamdeng Unit was staged at Lamdeng Mayai Leikai today appealing Government to approach higher Court in the 2018 drug haul case.
During the protest, Chingangbam Pramo, a member of Lamdeng Apunba Meira Paibi demanded re-investigation of the case and urged the Government to appeal the case to a higher Court.
Voicing the same demand, another sit in protest was also staged at Wabagai Keithel Macha in Kakching district by the members of Lamjing Meira Club Hiyanglam, women vendors of Wabagai Keithel Macha and Hiyanglam Waikhom Leikai Meira Paibi.
It may be noted that CADA has been organising protests at places demanding reinvestigation of the 2018 case.
Notably, Special Court ND&PS had acquitted then accused former ADC Chairman Lhukhosei Zou in the case.
Meanwhile, the Khurai Thangjam Leikai Meira Paibi Lup and Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol (CADA) jointly organised another sit-in at Khurai Thangjam Leikai today in connection with the same case.
Dipanjit Ningthoujam, vice president CADA, Sanjenbam Dasumati, president of Khurai Thangjam Leikai Apunba Meira Paibi Lup spoke during the sit-in protest, said a statement of CADA.
S Dasumati while addressing the gathering said that people are of the opinion that there may have been "flaws" in the prosecution of the case and appealed for prosecutor to further pursue the case in a higher Court.
As the case involves drugs which have been ruining the society and putting the State in the wrong light for years, the State Government should appeal against the judgement order and pray for re-investigation and retrial of the case in a higher Court, she said.
If the Government fails to pay heed to the calls of the public, there can be widespread public protests in the near future, she said.
Placards reading 'don't mock War on Drugs', 'save the future of youth' etc, were displayed during the sit-in, the statement continued.
