Imphal, November 26 2020:
The All Manipur Tammi-Chingmi Apunba Nupi Lup (TAMMI-CHINGMI) today observed its 29th foundation day at Laiphrakpam community hall, Wangoi.
The foundation, day observation was attended by only a few members of the association due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Tammi-Chingmi has worked relentlessly against the atrocities committed under this Act ever since including fake encounters and sexual violence against women.
Members of the organisation were also part of the famed Kangla protest after the alleged rape and murder of Thangjam Manorama came to light in July 2004 .
The agitation led to the removal of Assam Rifles from Kangla.
When the cease fire between NSCN (IM) and Indian Government was extended to Manipur, Chingmi-Tammi took part in the follow-up agitation that rocked the State and finally led to the withdrawal of cease fire from Manipur.
The statement also said that Tammi-Chingmi has always stood fast against the drug crisis in the State and also took part in the formation of AMKIL, UCM, CADA, NIPCO and Apunba Lup.
The organisation has also been in the forefront in bringing a sense of Nationalism amongst the youth by organising Patriots' Day, Mera Houchongba, etc.
Chingmi-Tammi, as a part of Sarmila Kanba Lup, has continued the demand for removal of AFSPA from Manipur even after Sarmila broke her fast against the Act, said a statement by the foundation.
