Railway affected land owners demand fair compensation

Imphal, August 26 2015:
Railway Affected Land Owner's Welfare Committee (RALOWCO) has demanded fair compensation for the affected landowners of the proposed broad gauge railway line construction.
The State Government, on November 13, 2014 issued a notification under Section 4(2) of the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act 2013 for acquisition of land for the proposed construction.
A public meeting of the committee on August 2 unanimously adopted resolutions which demand fair provisions for resettlement and rehabilitation of the affected villagers.
The resolutions adopted by the committee demands compensation based on the current market rate/value of lands; additional benefit/packages for rehabilitation and resettlement in addition to monetary compensation; employment opportunity under the State Govt for one member of each household affected by the acquisition and 50 percent reservation for recruitment to any post in the Railways.
