65th Vanamahotsava observed

To commemorate the 65th Vanamahotsava, Andro Khunou Leikai Youths Sporting Club in collaboration with the Range Officer of Nongmaiching Forests Range, Irilbung, organised a saplings plantation programme under the supervision of the Central Forests Division Mantripukhri today at Pureiromba Sanglen, Andro Bazaar.
Ch Gandhar Singh, Chief, Chakpa Andro; Th Mahendrapratap Singh, Conservator of Forest, Central Circle, Forest Dept, attended the programme as chief guest and president respectively.
Dr Y Mani Singh, Social Worker; Dr Dharmamukta, Superintendent, TB Hospital, Imphal east, were the guests of honour.
The programme was co-hosted by Dk Vinodkumar.
Arun RS, Director, Manipur Zoological Garden; DK Vinodkumar, Divisional Forests Officer, Central Forest Division.
Ch Gandhar Singh in his speech lauded the organising committee for initiating the plantation programme.
He also mentioned the importance of trees and ecological balance in human lives.
He stated that people should work collectively to conserve forest.
He also appealed the Forest Department to pay heed to Nongmaiching hill which has been partially destroyed by wildfire.
Th Mahendrapratap stressed on the reason behind the observation of Vanamahotsava and asserted on the need to conserve forest.
Apart from the local people, students and PRI members also attended the programme.
