Locals demand inclusion of Wabagai High School in School Phagat-hansi Mission

Locals of Hiyanglam and Wabagai Tuesday staged sit-in protest demanding inclusion of Wabagai High School in the Government's School Phagat-hansi Mission.
The sit-in protest was organised by Hiyanglam Gram Panchayat and Wabagai Gram Panchayat at Wabagai Lamkhai Keithel.
Speaking at the sit-in, Keirak-Wabagai Zilla Parishad Member and convenor of Demand Committee On School Phagat-hansi Mission for Wabagai High School, Wabagai, M Jayantakumar stated that the Wabagai High School was established in the year 1935 and subsequently affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education, Delhi in 1965.In 1996, the school started functioning under the Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur and was later downgraded to High School in 2011, he said.

Children from Wabagai, Hiyanglam, Mayang Imphal, Langmeidong and other places in the vicinity are attending the school, he said urging the Government to include the school in the programme.
Stating that the improvement and development of the school will be a boon to the people of the region, he appealed the Government and Department concerned to upgrade the school to higher secondary level to expand its role and significance.
He also appealed the Education Minister and the Government to look into the infrastructure needs of the school and provide all assistance and projects/programmes required to meet the prescribed standard.
He further appealed the Government to send adequate teachers and staff to ensure proper functioning of the school.
Leaders and members of various local CSOs, clubs, Meira Paibis and students took part in the sit-in.
