IMC ward development members felicitated

Imphal, June 25 2011: Newly elected ward development members of the Imphal Municipal Council were today felicitated in a function at MDU hall organized by the All Manipur Nagar Panchayat and Municipal Councils Elected Ward Development Committee Members Welfare Association.

A discussion on the duties and responsibilities of the ward development members was also held during the felicitation function in which Prof N Mohindro graced as chief guest.

Chief guest, Mohindro said that the habit of the government of taking up developmental projects without proper planning has made people suffer.

Due to lack of a government policy, the IMC could not discharge its duties, he added.

He further alleged there is no definite government policy for participation of local self governments in development works.

He stressed on the need of the government to learn the art of policy making.

He alleged that in Manipur, the government is always attempting to implement projects by force.

It will be better for the elected ward members to join hands together and press the government to hand over responsibilities to them.

Advocate Khaidem Mani, who attended the function as guest of honour observed that as there is no strong opposition who can point out the flaws in the government policies, it is difficult to believe that power will be delivered to the ward members by the government.

President N Binoy of Senior Citizens for Society presided over the function in which 54 newly elected ward development members of the IMC were felicitated.
