Imphal, March 25 2015:
Fascinated by the scenic beauty of Shalampat in Imphal East, locals of the area have started development of a 'gorgeous park' that will have a tourist resort in the meadow to make it a tourist destination.
Towards this end, a ritual ceremony was performed on Wednesday and began digging a pond in Shalampat under the joined initiative of Lamlai Kendra Development Association, Lamlai Development Committee, Apunba Meira Paibi Lup, Ima Emoinu Thougal Thoushil Kanglup and Lamlai Students' Ideal Club.
Lamlai Development Committee president Yaiphaba Wairokpam said Shalampat is donned with nature's gifts and hence the social organisations of the area have decided to improve it as beautiful tourist spot.
The first task began with digging of a pond today.
He said the pond will measure nearly 1000 ft in length and 200 ft in breadth.
Yaiphaba was delighted that the pond would also supply sufficient water to nearby villages.
Shalampat already has a fresh water body where Hiyang Tannaba (boat race) has been organising since the past two years.
Yaiphaba said social worker Mongjam Poireihanba has promised maximum aid to the efforts of the villagers.
Mongjam Poireihanba assured that the Union Ministry of Tourism would be urged to take it up as a big project.
As of now, he said, the villagers are planning to develop a tourist resort that includes a garden and a park.
He said all roads from Lamlai Keithel to Shalampat would also be improved as part of the park development work.
