Steps taken up to curb Delta variant, third wave: CM

Imphal, June 24 2021: While conducting an inspection of ongoing development projects, Chief Minister N Biren said that strict measures are being taken up to prevent the spread of the Delta variant of Covid-19 and a possible third wave in the state.

On Thursday, CM Biren inspected several projects including the ongoing construction of a 20 KL liquefied oxygen tank and PSA oxygen plant in JNIMS.

Speaking on the sidelines of the inspection, the CM said that an alert has been put on the national media over detection of Delta variant of Covid-19 in some states.

In Manipur, vaccination camps and testing drives are being conducted but there seem to be some carelessness among the people.

However, the government cannot stay silent even if the people are careless, he contended, while adding that measures are being taken up to combat the Delta variant.

"Apart from increasing hospital beds and oxygen plants, efforts are being taken up to instal 20,000 KL liquid medical oxygen tank, which will be completed by July 15 .

As the number of ICUs and ventilators in JNIMS are being increased, 200 cylinders have also been prepared for post-Covid patients, while 100 cylinders are reserved for dedicated Covid wards", he conveyed.

Informing that he will be conducting inspection of a dedicated Covid hospital at Keirao currently under-construction by DRDO, Biren said that the hospital will have a capacity of 200 beds, with 50 ventilators and ICU beds.

Additionally, instructions have been issued to supply a transformer for the hospital which will be delivered on June 26 .

Taking into account all of these measures, the state is preparing well to combat the third wave, he added.

Later, the CM took stock of the ongoing construction works for the New Secretariat at Mantripukhi, wherein he announced that efforts are being taken up to inaugurate the same by October this year.

He then instructed the officials assigned to supervise the project to inform him of any requirements.
