Public awareness prog on AH project held

The existence of plan site and labour camp site as part of the road expansion work on Asian Highway No 1 (earlier known as NH-39) along Imphal-Moreh road that connects India through Myanmar and South Asian countries, has caused myriad of problems to the villagers of Khangshim Village, reports our correspondent adding that it has also posed serious existential crisis to indigenous populace Uipo (Khoibu tribe).
An awareness programme regarding the highway expansion project was organized by Khangshim Village Authority, Chandel district at K Koshang Memorial community hall during which many resource persons spoke in detail about the project.
In the awareness programme, Authority of Asian Highway Project - Asian Development Bank (ADB) and National Highway and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) - conveyed that an Environmental Management Plan is required around plan site and labour camp site of the project including the area around Khangshim village to save the Khoibu community.
In the programme, chief of Khangshim village, Khaling Mikawlrawang spoke in detail about the project including the NHIDCL, GRIL and JKS to the gatherings while former president, Naga Women's Union Manipur (NWUM), Grace Satshang spoke on 'Impacts of Development Projects' and Co-convener, Naga People's Movement For Human Rights (NPMHR-South), Koruphun Tantanga spoke on 'Indigenous People's Rights' as resource persons.
