Imphal, May 23 2020:
Manipur Students' Federation (MSF) has appealed to the State Government to come out with a plan to check the selling of essential items at an exorbitant price by some wholesalers and shopkeepers at the earliest.
Speaking to media persons, general secretary of MSF, Hijam Roshan alleged that they came across one godown at Mantripukhri which doesn't display price list, thereby defying the order issued by the State Government last month.
The said godown also violated the order of Chamber of Commerce, Imphal, which bans the selling of goods from the godown.
He then demanded the State Government to make every shop/godown display price list of essential commodities at the earliest.
On the other hand, United Peoples' Front Manipur (UPF) has also condemned the hike in price of commodities by traders and shopkeepers and urged the Government to punish those guilty.
UPF in its statement, expressed that selling of goods at an inflated rate during this hard time of lockdown is very unfortunate and alleged that the price fixation committee of the State Government is not carrying out its job properly.
Moreover, the State Government has failed to translate its own words into action, it said.
Saying that timely intervention is of utmost importance, UPF has strongly urged the Government to catch and punish the culprits, including cancellation of their license, it also stated.
