Imphal, April 23 2019:
Manipur was forcibly merged into the Indian Union by violating all international laws and norms on September 21, 1949, continued the CorCom.
According to articles 52 and 52, any agreement signed between two countries by keeping representatives of one country under duress by the another country is invalid.
As such, the Merger Agreement signed on September 21, 1949 has no validity.
Moreover, the first Manipur Legislative Assembly elected through adult franchise rejected the Merger Agreement as a threat to the sovereignty of Manipur and the merger as forced 'annexation', it asserted.
The Indian Independence Act 1947 placed all the laws enacted by princely States and the dominion Government on an equal position.
The Supreme Court of India in its several judgements pertaining to several cases like Virendra Singh vs State of UP, 1954, the State of Saurashtra vs Memom Haji Ismai 1959 and Ragunathrao Ganpatrao vs Union of India 1993 clearly pointed out that Manipur was a sovereign, independent Nation, it claimed.
The Manipur People's Democratic Convention held on October 28-29, 1993 resolved that the Merger Agreement had no legal validity and the merger of Manipur into the Indian Union was not merger but annexation.
One can never claim that Manipur is a part of India or Manipur had close relationship with India since historical days just because Manipur was merged into the Indian Union on September 21, 1949, it contended.
After the controversial merger, the Government of India made all attempts to prevent Manipuri people from commemorating any event related to the State's history of freedom and independence.
On August 13, 1972, the then coalition Government led by MPP made all arrangements to observe the Martyrs Day at Bir Tikendrajit Park.
But the Government of India banned the Martyrs Day observation through then Chief Secretary Krishnarty and Inspector General of Police Madan Gopal.
Notwithstanding the Government of India's prohibition, people observed the Martyrs' Day peacefully under the leadership of then Chief Minister Md Alimuddin and Education Minister Yumnam Yaima.
The prohibitory directive issued by the Government of India was not known to the people for a long time.
People came to know about it only when Y Yaima disclosed it through media many years later, CorCom continued.
Now, the Government of India is planning to annul Article 370 and Article 35A so as to forfeit certain level of autonomy being enjoyed by Kashmir.
Two former Chief Ministers of Jammu & Kashmir namely Mehbooba Mufti and Omar Abdullah have openly declared that Kashmir would secede from India in case the State's autonomy is curtailed.
It is a matter of grave concern that such spirit of patriotism cannot be seen in the political leaders of Manipur.
In their efforts to win goodwill of their Central leaders and secure their positions of power, political leaders of the State have been committing several anti-people acts, said the CorCom.
Neither the puppet State Government nor the Government of India will ever bring freedom, dignity and development to Manipur.
Freedom, dignity and development can be achieved only through a mass liberation movement.
In order to bring a progressive Manipur, liberation of Manipur is the foremost task, it added.
