CPI general secretary AB Bardhan today informed the state CPI that UNLF chairman, RK Meghen aka Sanayaima has been handed over to India after being arrested by a combined team of Indian intelligence agency, RAW, and its Bangladesh counterpart on September 29 last.
AB Bardhan personally informed about the matter over telephone to General Secretary of CPI Manipur State Council, Langol Iboyaima that he was informed by his counterpart chairman of Bangladesh Communist Party, Manjur Hassan when he enquired about it.
Earlier, on Saturday, CPI general secretary, AB Bardhan urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to make public the whereabouts of the chairman of the United National Liberation Front (UNLF), R.K.Meghan.
In a letter to PM, Bardhan said Meghen alias Sanayaima was arrested by a combined team of Indian intelligence agencies and its Bangladesh counterpart near Dhaka in September this year.
The arrest was broadcast by the media and later he was handed over to the Indian authorities and flown to Delhi, but since then his whereabouts have remained a mystery.
In his letter, AB Bardhan termed the Central government silent on the matter for such a long time is tantamount to gross rights violation .
"I have learnt that R.K.Meghan's wife has already submitted a letter to you to let the family know the whereabouts of Mr.Meghan.
Such a course of action in remaining silent without following the due process of law is in gross violation and (is a) transgression of the basic right to life and liberty as guaranteed by the Constitution of India and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights," Mr.Bardhan said in his letter requesting Dr.Singh to personally look into the matter and reveal his whereabouts.
Baradhan wrote the letter to PM after he was convinced by Dr M Nara who was deputed CPI, Manipur State Council after an executive meeting of the party in the state review the prevailing fragile situation of the state when Centre remained silent on whereabouts of Meghen even after around a month of his arrest on November 13 last.
Dr M Nara after returned back from New Delhi told reporters on Sunday that he was informed unrest situation in the state arising out in the wake of India government's non-confirmation of whereabouts of Meghen was discussed in the executive meeting.
The meeting thoroughly discussed the tense situation in the state arising when whereabouts of Meghen was not confirmed to the family as well as people of the state he said adding that he was deputed to hold consultation with Central leaders of the party.
After patiently hearing to the revelation, AB Bardhan assured him to put up the matter not only to the Prime Minister of the counter but also to communicate with his counterpart Communist leader in Bangladesh, Nara said.
The party also took a decision to put the matter on the floor of the Parliament.
MP D Raja of the party has been entrusted to put up the matter in the Rajya Sabha while Gurudas Gupta to the Lok Sabha, he said.
In the meantime, social and student organisations in the state are continuing staging sit-in protest demanding disclosure of whereabouts of RK Meghen to the government authorities.
A discussion was also organized by Families of Involuntary Disappeared Association of Manipur (FIDAM) yesterday in which a decision to send a missive to the United Nations Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappeared (UN-WGEID) on whereabouts of RK Sanayaima alias RK Meghen was adopted.
The discussion held at Manipur Press Club under the theme, "A One Day Discussion on Involuntary Disappearance of RK Sanayaima alias RK Meghen" was participated by representatives of civil organisations like the United Committee, Manipur (UCM), United People's Front (UPF), CORE, All Manipur Bar Association (AMBA), Human Rights Alert (HRA) and others.
Today also volunteers of Macha Leima staged a sit-in protest in front of its office at Palace Compound on the state demand.
Another sit-in protest staged at Wangkhei Mei houbam Lampak was dispersed by the police today.
