Even as two thieves, involved in the case, have been pulled up by the volunteers of AeM, the police personnel is absconding, Muheiyuddin said.
The diesel autorickshaw (MN-01V-3650) was stolen from Lilong Bazar when its driver/owner was taking tea on July 15 .
As the owner complained the matter to them, AeM alerted its network to trace the stolen vehicle, he added.
At around 8 pm on July 17, AeM received an alert from Keirao Sabal Leikai in Imphal East district regarding the presence of the stolen vehicle and the thieves there.
AeM volunteers immediately rushed to the locality and pulled up the two thieves along with the stolen vehicle, he said.
The thieves had changed the High Security number plate of the vehicle with an ordinary number plate inscribed with a new number MN01C-1450 .
Surprisingly, police Constable Md Firoz alias Nazir alias Naha, posted at Nilakuthi Police Station, was found involved in the case, Muheiyuddin added.
He asked the absconding cop to appear at the office of AeM immediately.
The two vehicle lifters have been indentified as Md Azad s/o Md Jamal Uddin of Lilong Turel Ahanbi and Md Amuthi s/o Md Ali of Lilong Chingjao.
Apart from parading the two thieves before the media, the autorickshaw was handed over to its owner Md Iqbal s/o Md Bashir of Lilong Nungei at AeM office on July 18 by former president of AeM and Atoukhong Zila Parishad Member Abdul Salam Faisal.
