Police foils mob from torching alleged murderer's house

Imphal, June 21 2011:
Police Tuesday foiled a bid to torch house of an UG activist arrested and charge by police involved in the murder of a pharmacist at Wangoi in Imphal West district on June 14 last.
However, the irate crowd set afire a workshop belonging to the family of the militant.
Huidrom Shantikumar, an activist of KCP(Sunil Meitei) group was nabbed by police commandos yesterday during an operation at Yumnam Huidrom Makha Leikai.
Police said that he had conspired with one activist of the same group in plotting to kill Huidrom Jotin on June 14 last.
Local reports said that Shantikumar is a relative of deceased Jotin who hailed from the same locality.
When the news about the arrest of Shantikumar appeared in local newspapers in today's edition, locals rose up and stormed at his house.
However, timely intervention of the police had prevented from causing damage to the house.
After retreated from the house they stormed a workshop run by Shantikumar's family at Wangoi Bazar and ransacked it.
The workshop and vehicles in it were partially damaged in the attack, reports said.
