Oken assures monthly stipend to students of all Govt institutions

With a view to ease the problems faced by the people of the state in acquiring the daily essential requirements, Consumer affairs and Public Distribution Minister M Okendro has assured that provision for delivering cooking gas to every household would be taken up shortly.
Minister Okendro, who is also in charge of Education, further announced that every student who gets admitted in government schools and colleges would be given monthly stipend.
He was speaking on the occasion of 19th Annual Prize Distribution Function, 2012 organized by Council of Higher of Secondary Education, Manipur at Jawaharlal Nehru Manipuri Dance Academy hall here today.
Speaking as Chief Guest of the function, Minister M Okendro noted that people are using kerosene as substitute for electricity in this state where supply of electricity is not up to the mark.
All measures will be taken up to supply kerosene at the rate of Rs 16/17 as against the current rate of Rs 70/80, which people have to be spend in procuring kerosene from the market.
The Minister further informed that apart from making kerosene available at reduced rates, all the PDS items would be made available in the right manner with suggestions from the public.
Moreover, efforts would also be made for ensuring availability of petrol and diesel to the people round the clock along with providing security to all the fuel stations.
Observing that some of the government school teachers are coming to ask for contract work instead of complaining about the problems they face in imparting education to the students, the Minister assured that Government teachers would be seriously dealt with if found engaging in contract works.
To give a halt to poor quality in construction of schools and other related buildings, all the constructions would be henceforth done under a single construction system and design with the same colour.
An amount of Rs 300 crores has been sanctioned under SSA for civil works and the sanctioned amount would be used properly, the Minister said.
The Minister further said that to bring about development in the educational sector, the official website of the Education Department would be changed to "Education Minister Website" and a separate post box number would be assigned.
Suggestions from the public will be entertained and work accordingly by setting up a forum in the regard.
Manipur School Services would also be established and accordingly the Education Cell would be converted into Education wing with induction of a Chief Engineer along with 70 other staffs.
Challenging the private schools in providing various benefits to its students, Minister Okendro further informed that every student who gets admitted in government schools and colleges would be given monthly stipend.
The function was presided by S Geeta, Chairperson of Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur.
Prof W Nabakumar Singh, Dean of School of Human & Environmental Sciences, MU was also present as Guest of Honour.
On the occasion, the Council Gold Medal and Cash Awards as well as other awards consisting citation and cash prize were given to each of the 4th to 20th position holders in Arts and Science and 4th to 5th position holders in Commerce stream.
