Imphal, January 21 2020:
Roadside Vendors Welfare Association, Khwairamband Keithel Imphal has submitted a representation each to the Chief Minister and MAHUD Minister today, seeking approval to extend the vending hours.
A press release issued by vice president of the association stated that in the representation, the association has asserted that the recent order issued by IMC on January 16, prohibited street vendors from operating their business around Ema Keithel after 9 am.
Maintaining that the order has gravely affected over 2000 street vendors, it stated that these vendors have been up around Ema market for the past 10-15 years and now the street vendors are being stripped of their source of livelihood as it is not enough to manage a family by closing their only business at 9 in the morning.
It urged the State Government and the authority concerned to consider the sentiments of the daily wage earners and to respect the Street Vendors Act 2014.It further urged the authority concerned to grant permission to the street vendors to conduct their business, like before, around the three Ema markets and at places including both the sides of BT Road, Alu Galli Thangal Bazar and at Nagamapal even after 9 am, until the Town Vending Committee is constituted.
