Khwairakpa Erel Umanglai festival sees devotees thronging small island in Barak river

Devotees from all over the places thronged Khwairakpa Erel Khuvam (Narando Baba) to worship at the sacred shrine located on a small island in Barak river which is an annual festival organized by Khwailakpa Erel Umang Lai Ngaksel Lup, Lakhipur, Cachar, Assam on the second Sunday of Wakening (January 20).Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Art and Culture L Jayanta Kumar Singh also descended at the holy place taking the route from Jiri Mukh to personally assess the arrangement made by the organizer for the convenience of the devotees.
He was accompanied by Director, Art and Culture, Shiv Das Sharma; SP Jiri Police, M Mubi Singh; Addl SP H Basulal Singh, Director of AYUSH, Guneshor Sharma and other officials during the inspection visit.
Speaking to the media persons, the minister said the main purpose of his visit is to assess the different area of Jiribam and to identify suitable location at this border area so that development work can be initiated.
He further said that Jiribam Hospital which is a sub-division hospital will be upgraded to district hospital as Jiribam is now a separate district and gave his assurance of building a 50 bedded hospital for AYUSH in Jiribam at the earliest.
The minister further maintained that Jiri Mukh, Ningsingkhul Biodiversity Park, and Leisabithol Waterfall will be developed as tourist spot.
Regarding Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016, Minister Jayanta Kumar said the bill has become an alarming issue for the indigenous people of NE States and various NE based political parties vehemently opposed the passing of controversial bill in the Lok Sabha which has the potential to annihilate and decimate the identities of the indigenous people.
He continued that NPP is also against the said bill and added that the State Govt will also press hard the Central Govt to quash the contentious
bill.
