Imphal, June 19 2012:
Underlining the need for an early solution to the impasse of Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) in the Hill areas, particularly the Naga inhabited districts, Indigenous Democratic Front (IDF) called on Governor of Manipur Gurbachan Jagat at the Raj Bhawan today and pressed him for necessary intervention.
According to a statement, during the meeting with the Governor, IDF leaders dwelled at length on the need to have the ADCs functioning at their respective districts without any further delay.
Asserting that the ADCs of Tamenglong, Chandel, Ukhrul and Senapati should go back from their temporary camp at Imphal to their respective jurisdictions for disposing their responsibilities to the people, IDF leaders made it clear that failure of making the ADCs functional from their respective districts headquarters would be in total contravention to the District Council Act and invite dissolution or super cession in accordance to the law.
It may be recalled that the as many as four ADCs have been functioning from Imphal for the past 2 years.
