Swine Flu: 3 tested negative; 2 more admitted to hospital

One person suspected to have been infected with Swine Flu has been discharged from the isolated ward of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) here following his blood sample testing negative for H1N1 virus.
Health Department sources on Thursday said the State Government has stepped up preventive measures after Manipur recorded its first Swine Flu case on March 5.Blood samples of three persons were sent to labs for test but the results had shown negative for H1N1 virus.
One person, who had been under treatment at RIMS after he developed Swine-Flu-like symptoms, had been discharged from the hospital on March 17 after he fully recovered from his illness, they informed.
His sample also tested negative for H1N1 virus.
Meanwhile, two persons suspected to have been infected with H1N1 virus have been admitted to Shija Hospitals & Research Institute, Langol for medical treatment.
Results of their samples are awaited.
Awareness programme on Swine Flu has been further intensified to reach all the nook and corner of the State with the Government accelerating its precautionary measures to contain the virus.
Children under 5 years and adults who above 65 years of age are more susceptible to Swine Flu.
Health experts say, continuous monitoring of a person's body temperature every day for one week is recommended if the person comes back from a place where spread of the disease is reported, or who stays close to a person infected with the virus.
Such person is also advised to remain indoors for seven days, they said.
A sudden surge in panic buying of masks was witnessed in the State in recent times in the wake of two persons dying of H1N1 virus.
People bought masks, sold at exorbitant prices in the market, to protect themselves from the virus.
But the panicky situation experienced in the past few days has apparently subsided now as no more Swine Flu deaths are reported.
Now, distribution of homeopathic medicine Arsenicum Album 30 pills to the public is continuing in the State.
Ayush officials have asserted the benefits of the drug as effective in preventing Swine Flu but there has been conflicting claims in this regard for several days.
The State Health Minister Phungzathang Tonsing had also recently clarified that this drug can be used as a Swine Flu preventive.
