College students demand regular Principal

Imphal, September 18 2015 : A large number of students of Birmangol College, Sawom-bung staged a sit-in-protest today in front of the gate of Directorate of University and Higher Education (U) at Nitaipat Chuthek near Raj Bhavan, Imphal demanding the authority concerned to provide a regular Principal for Birmangol College.

The college has been running without a regular Principal since October 2014 after the previous Principal retired.

Students of the college has been demanding the authorities concerned to provide a regular Principal for the last eight months by staging a series of protests.

Speaking to media persons, general secretary of Birmangol College Students Union L Dhaneswori stated that the governing body of the college has held an election yet the authorities concerned have not approved the elected body.

Neglecting the demand for a regular Principal has led to a failure of the administrative function of the college.

After the union representatives met the Director of the Directorate of University and Higher Education (U), sources informed that no conclusion could be brought and further meeting will be held with the Education Minister and other Commissioners on Tuesday.
