Imphal, November 16, 2012: In a rare incident of its kind, a newly bom baby was killed when a rogue monkey attacked Neikanlong village, Thangmeiband this morning.

According to information culled from the spot, the baby was just around 45 days old and she was not yet given any formal name.

The baby was the third child born to Gaidinlung Gangmei and Agana.

Agana had just returned home after vaccinating her newly born daughter at a nearby PHC.

She had stepped into the verandah, when the monkey which was atop a nearby tree at the time jumped down suddenly on Agana and assaulted the infant on her back.

The baby was immediately rushed to Shija Hospitals but she succumbed to the injuries.

The rogue monkey was reportedly reared by one Naveen Rai of the village and it ran amok after breaking the chain with which it, was tethered.

The monkey was later chased down and killed by the villagers.
