MLA inspects canal reconstruction works

Bishnupur, July 16 2019: Reconstruction works are on at Sunushiphai canal, Naranseina canal and Ngangkhalawai canal to give irrigation water to farms/fields covered by Loktak Lift Irrigation Moirang Low canal, said MLA P Saharatchandra Singh today.

Efforts are on to provide water by July 31, he said while inspecting reconstruction works at the sites.

Ngangkhalawai GP Up-Pradhan and members, Phubala GP elected members and BJP Moirang Mandal members were present during the inspection.

Urging farmers to sow high yielding varieties of paddy seed which are drought and flood tolerant, Sharatchndra said that the Government has been taking up various measures to increase farmers' produces.

Farmers are facing water scarcity as a result of the LLI scheme which has been lying idle for the past thirty years, he said.

The current works in war footing will soon be completed in the coming 10 days, he said and assured the farmers that steps would be taken up to rehabilitate the LLI scheme and clean the canals for long term usage.

Commissioning the LLI High Canal would provide ample water for farmers to take up double and triple cropping, he said stating that works are on to commission the same.
