New Delhi, July 16 2018:
Deeply concerned over the current impasse in Manipur University and border pillar/fencing dispute with Myanmar among other issues which have plagued the State for years, Manipur Students' Association Delhi (MSAD) has called a mass protest on July 18 at Shastri Bhavan, New Delhi.
"Manipur University which is meant to be a thriving arena of fervent culture of political discourse has been in tremendous structural breakdown since the last one and half month.
It seems to be clear that the Indian Government wants to wipe out the intellectual faculty of a whole society," said MSAD reacting strongly to the current impasse in the varsity.
The association also denounced the presence of a military battalion inside the University campus.
The association held the Central Government in Delhi responsible for the many issues including the border pillar/fencing dispute with Myanmar.
"Decisions made thousands of kilometres away in Delhi are unable to reflect the interest and aspirations of the people of Manipur," said the association and asked: "Is Kwatha village another Kabaw Valley?, a land sold at the expense of Manipur and at the benefit of Delhi" .
The association also decried the recent "arbitrary" eviction at Khetri Bengoon (Awangching) in Imphal East and asserted that it has rendered families of more than 70 houses homeless.
MSAD also recalled the Heirangoithong massacre of 1984, Oinam massacre 1987, Tera Bazar 1993, RMC (now RIMS) 1995, Malom 2000 etc.
The mass protest for Manipuris residing in Delhi will begin from 2 pm, Wednesday July 18 at Shastri bhavan
, said MSAD .
