Imphal, April 16 2020:
Though Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced the extension of lockdown in wake of coronavirus outbreak till May 3, death toll due to COVID-19 continue to rise in the country due to lack of sufficient infrastructures like ventilators and PPE kits, said All India Youth Federation (AIYF) in a statement today.
Almost all political parties, social organizations and even individuals agree that lockdown is the only solution to stop the spread of COVID 19 virus, but the Prime Minister has not considered the difficulties of working class, it said adding that lack of basic infrastructures like ventilators PPE (Personal Protection Equipment) kits like masks, gloves and sanitizers for doctors, health workers and sanitation workers has led to the increase of death toll in the country.
Even a few doctors are also dead because of the lack of PPEs and lakhs of migrant workers and poor people are suffering from this lockdown without food and ration, said AIYF adding that daily wagers and workers in unorganized sectors are deeply hurt because of the failure of the incumbent Government to address their necessities.
Saying that there is no clear information about the economic wellbeing of the Nation after lockdown and the employment of labour in the unorganized sector, AIYF demanded that the Government should provide Rs 10,000 to for each family for the 19 days.
Even the relief works are not in full swing in various States due to 'partiality of Central Govt to allocate funds to the States' .
It is evident that most affected States are allocated less fund.
This has resulted in lacklustre mode of relief work.
Hence Central Government should release funds with immediate effect, the federation demanded.
Condemning the Government's negligence towards poor people and partiality in providing a fund to the States, AlYF demands the Government to ensure the availability of PPEs for doctors, health workers and sanitation workers at the earliest.
AlYF also paid homage to the medical practitioners who are laid to rest in this war against the corona pandemic.
