Imphal, February 16 2019:
JAC against the life attempt of W Pamheiba and W Malemnganbi of Chingkhei Khullen, Lamlai A/C, Imphal East district, has warned the State Government that it will launch intense forms of agitation from February 24, if the Government fails to fulfil the JAC's demands which include immediate arrest of the culprits who shot the two victims.
Addressing a press meet held at Manipur Press Club today, the JAC convener, RK Keron, asserted that the State Government and authorities concerned have failed to take up any significant step in connection with the shooting of W Pamheiba (60) and her daughter W Malemnganbi (26) by unknown individuals at the former's residence on the night of February 3, at around 11 pm.
She went on to inform that the victims are currently undergoing treatment at Raj Medicity, North AOC and are in serious conditions.
Asserting that the victims have already underwent a major operation each at the said hospital and incurred huge expenses for the treatment so far, the convener maintained that the victims and their family members are facing a hard time in managing the cost of the treatments.
The victims will undergo further operations soon and as such the family members will incur further expense for the treatment.
However, the Government has not given any attention to the victims and has also failed to book the culprits although the incident was widely reported in media.
Copies of the memorandum, consisting of five charter of demands which the JAC had drafted according to the resolutions taken in a public meeting held recently at the locality of the victims, will be submitted today to the Chief Minister, DGP, Lamlai A/C MLA and Lamlai PS OC, she said.
Saying that the JAC's main charter of demands include arresting the culprits involved in the shooting of W Pamheiba and W Malemnganbi at the earliest, providing a Government job to a family member of Pamheiba and providing necessary assistance to the victims, she said that the JAC is serving a one week deadline to the State Government to fulfil the JAC's demands till February 23 .
If the Government fails to meet the JAC's demands by February 23, the JAC will launch intense forms of agitation from the next day, February 24, she added.
The convener also demanded all those responsible for the shooting to clarify why they carried out the act, at the earliest.
