Imphal, September 15 2018:
Veteran politician Okram Joy has claimed that the foundation day of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) was celebrated on the wrong day.
During a press meet held at Manipur Press club today, Okram Joy alleged that RIMS was founded on May 22, 1972 in the presence of former Governor BK Nehru and Chief Minister Alimuddin and added that the first academic session of the institution began on September 14 of the same year.
He urged RIMS authority to rectify the observation of the foundation day, which is held on the wrong date, every year, at the earliest, saying that such distortion of historical record may create confusion and become a big issue in the future.
PPF, Manipur spokesperson, MI Khan also spoke at the meet and questioned on what basis the foundation day of RIMS was celebrated on September 14 and demanded clarification from RIMS authority within a week.
PPF, Manipur had submitted a memorandum in 2013 and 2015 to observe the foundation day of RIMS on May 22 but the authority concerned has not paid any heed to the demands till date, he said.
MI Khan also said that PPF, Manipur totally condemned the lynching of one Md Farooque Ahmad at Tharoijam Awang Leikai, under Patsoi PS by locals on mere suspicion of being a vehicle thief.
He said that further inquiry should be carried out by establishing a Fast Track Court or in a special Court to take up legal actions against the culprits involved, so that such tragic incident is not repeated.
He also appealed to the public not to create communal tension in connection with the incident.
