World Plastic Surgery Day observed

Imphal, July 15 2024: The Department of Plastic Surgery, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal celebrated World Plastic Surgery Day under the theme "Surgical Advancement in Plastic Surgery: The Latest Innovations and Recent Trends" at Banting Hall, RIMS, Imphal today.

The celebration was organised by the Department of Plastic Surgery, RIMS, Imphal in collaboration with Rotary Club of Imphal, said a release issued by RIMS.

It was graced by Dr Khundongbam Palin, CMD, Shija Hospitals, Langol; Prof G Sunil Kumar Sharma, Director, RIMS, Imphal; Prof N Sanjib Singh, Medical Superintendent, RIMS Hospital, Imphal; and Saratchandra Singh Phijam, president, Rotary Club of Imphal as presidium members.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Khundongbam Palin highlighted the tremendous progress in the field of plastic surgery over the last 3 decades.

He continued that plastic surgery is now defined as a problem-solving surgical discipline, it benefits individuals of all ages & genders and can be life-saving for bum victims.

He shared that World Plastic Surgery Day is celebrated every year on July 15 to make the people aware about plastic surgery and the diverse & impactful work of plastic surgeons beyond cosmetic procedures.

"People generally believed that plastic surgery deals only with 'beauty and glamour' and monopoly of 'rich and famous' which is no longer true", said Dr Palin while adding that plastic surgery can restore forms & functions of body parts.

"Self-esteem of an individual can be increased through plastic surgery.

Anti-aging sciences are emerging as the most wanted human innovation of the century", he added.

Dr G Sunil Kumar announced that patients with post-bum deformities present at the event would be given all necessary assistance for their treatment in the near future.

The programme was attended by RK Mecolt Singh, Deputy Director (Admn), RIMS, Imphal, Principal, Dental College, RIMS, Imphal, Principal, College of Nursing, RIMS, Imphal, Heads of Departments, Nursing Officials, faculties and staff of RIMS, Imphal.
