New Delhi, July 15 2014:
The office of the Manipur Information Centre in New Delhi wore a deserted look as majority of the staff were absent registering protest against non-payment of salary since past three months.
Newspapers have stopped coming in, and the other basic facilities such as telephone lines and internet connection were cut off as the monthly rental fees were not cleared.
According to an official order of the Government of Manipur, Finance Department, dated March 7, 2014, the said Manipur Information Centre were to draw their salaries from the Manipur Bhawan in New Delhi and also submit accounts/bills to the same.
The Senior Accounts Officer was authorized by the Finance Department to draw cheque on the Reserve Bank of India/State Bank of India, New Delhi in favour of Manipur Information Center, Delhi.
As it stands, the procedure for drawing salaries or bill/expenditure remittance have not been arranged till date.
The main reason reportedly cited was a non availability of cheque books.
In an emergency situations such as sending out important communication, the staff would run to the nearby cyber cafes.
Many communications and other official works were somehow managed as of now in this manner, particularly when any State Minister visited Delhi for official work and important information/communication were to be released.
