Imphal, January 15 2019:
Protection and Development Committee (a high power body of Manipur People's Party) during a meeting held yesterday, urged all to demand for "Special/exceptional provision for protection of topographical status of Manipur" for the survival of the indigenous people of Manipur.
A press release issued by co-convener, Protection & Development Committee, MPP stated that the reported assurance given by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to Chief Minister Biren Singh and two MPs of Rajya Sabha that the culture and customs of Manipur will not be affected, and the attempt to get president's assent to Manipur People Bill shows that the matter has not been properly deliberated.
It stated that the MPP will not contest in the upcoming Lok Sabha election as a protest demanding special topographical status for the survival and safety of the indigenous people of Manipur.
