Lions Club observes World Diabetes Day

Under the supervision of International Association of Lions Club of District 322, Lions Club of Wangjing has observed World Diabetes Day at Prabhu Achouba Mandop, Heirok Part 2 Bazar, today.
As part of the observance, a free medical camp was also held, in which over 150 locals and people from surrounding areas were treated.
The camp conducted under the sponsorship of Irengbam Thamcha Devi Nursing & Health Care Research Institute, Uripok was attended by 6 doctors, nurses, staff and students of the institute.
Apart from treating and screening the patients for different diseases, the organiser also provided medicine at free of cost.
Lions Club of Imphal in association with Sega Road Welfare Club organised a free diabetes detection camp at Keishampat Leimajam Leikai Community Hall, in connection with World Diabetes Day, today.
Speaking to media persons by the sideline of the camp, spokesperson of the Lion Club of Imphal said that the club, with assistance from International Diabetes Federation (IDF), has set a mission to screen 1 million people for type-2 diabetes.
As observed globally, North Eastern Diabetes Society Manipur (NEDSM) also observed World Diabetes Day at the hall of India Medical Association (IMA), Lamphel, today.
The society also conducted free medical camp attended by 10 doctors as part of the observance, in which a facility for blood sugar, lipid profile and urine tests were given.
At the event, NEDSM president, Dr Th Premchand Singh said that though the numbers of diabetic patients has increased manyfold, they can live a normal life by adopting effective management strategies.
Stating that this year theme for World Diabetes Day is "Family and Diabetes", Dr Premchand said that it is imperative to conduct timely checkup for early intervention and prevent one body from further damage by
the disease.
