Five hurt in bomb blast

Imphal, June 14 2014 :
At least five persons were wounded in a powerful bomb explosion which took place inside an ironing shop run by a non-local man near Moirangkhom Sougaijam Leirak along Imphal-Moreh road section of National Highway-2 in Imphal West district on Saturday.
The five victims were identified as B Govind (78) of Nagamapal, Ph Ibomcha (58) of Moirangkhom, , RK Jhalajit (46) of Yaiskul Janmasthan, Y Ibotombi (52) of Yumnam Leikai Lairembi Maning and A Kenedy (22) of Kongba Nandeibam Leikai.
They were taken to JNIMS and nearby hospitals for medical treatment.
The spot of the incident is located just about 500 meters south east of the high security zone area that houses Manipur Telephone Bhavan, Manipur Police Headquarters, First Manipur Rifles Battalion, Manipur Secretariat and the Chief Minister's Bungalow.

The blast that took place around 1:30 pm ripped through the shop.
All the roofing CI sheets of the shop have been blown away by the impact of the blast.
The windshield of a red Alto car, which was moving along the road at the time of the blast also shattered.
But the shop owner named Bijay Raja (45), who hails from Bhospur district, Bihar, luckily escaped unhurt as he was staying in another shop nearby at the time of the blast.
It could not be confirmed whether the unknown assailants triggered the blast to target the non-Manipuri.
A large number of commandos from Imphal West District Police rushed to the site.
They blocked the Imphal-Moreh road for some time and conducted search for possible more bombs in the area.
The commandos recovered one SIM card each of Airtel and Vodafone from the blast site.
Police said they believed the explosion was caused by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED).
However, they added that further investigation was on to determine the type of the bomb.
So far, no armed UG group has claimed responsibility for the blast.
