Imphal, September 13 2024:
Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has officially invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit Manipur at least once so that the suffering of the people for nearly 16 months due to the ongoing violence could be brought to an end.
After submitting the invitation at Prime Minister's Office (PMO) in New Delhi on Friday along with spokesperson N Bhupenda, president K Meghachandra informed The People's Chronicle that MPCC acted as representative of the people and submitted the official invitation so that the PM could visit Manipur at least once to personally oversee violence raging for the nearly 16 months and chalk up steps to restore peace and normalcy in the state.
According to K Meghachandra, the hapless people of Manipur affected by the violence since May 3, 2023 are awaiting for the PM to hear their voices.
While nearly one lakh people remain homeless and they are still living under very trying conditions at relief camps, the violence intensified since September 1 after drones, RPGs and rockets were used to target civilians.
The renewed violence with utilisation of highly sophisticated weapons caused fear and tension among the people, he said and appealed to the PM to visit Manipur on humanitarian ground.
Regarding contents of the invitation submitted to the PMO, Meghachandra said people of Manipur have strong belief that PM Narendra Modi will hear suffering of the people by visiting the state for addressing the conflict between two communities.
The invitation also mentioned that the suffering people of Manipur are eagerly awaiting the PM, he added.
Notably, INDIA Bloc held a press conference on Thursday and condemned the PM for not visiting Manipur.
