Imphal, June 13 2011: A thief is in the city police custody after he was caught by VDF (Village Defence Force) personnel on duty in the bazaar while trying to steal a vehicle at Paona International Market today.

Md Nijamudding (32) son of Md Najimuddin of Thoubal Leishangthem was caught by the VDF personnel when he met with an accident with the Pulsar motorcycle (MN05B-2047) he had lifted in front of Job Creation Centre.

The VDF personnel stopped him when he violated the one-way traffic rule there.

After meeting the accident, Najimuddin ran away from the spot leaving behind the motorcycle.

Being suspicion, the VDF personnel chased and overpowered him.

On spot verification, he turned out to be a vehicle lifter and that he had just lifted the motorcycle.

City police who rushed to the spot on getting the information took him into their custody.

He is a tablet abuser, police said.
