Imphal, May 12 2020:
Locals staged a sit-in protest at Langol Ningthou Leikai Community Hall denouncing the demarcation launched by Forest Department and Revenue Department at 91-Meitei Langol today.
Asserting that the "time is not right" for the demarcation, the locals during the sit-in protest claimed that the demarcation are being carried out in their absence.
The COVID-19 lockdown has forced everyone to stay indoors and are unable to take part or observe the demarcation.
Above this, an order of the High Court of Manipur had stated that demarcation should be carried out in the presence of the population/people concerned, they claimed appealing the Forest and the Revenue Departments not to continue with the demarcation.
If the Departments continue with the demarcation process, the locals would be forced to denounce and oppose the process, said the locals who claimed that the 91-Meitei Langol at Langol foothill was inhabited by them with the "knowledge of the Revenue Department" .
Forest Department can't force and take the land from them, they said.
